How to video chat the easiest way for free

Image 1. Click to open in original size.

It is essential to keep in contact with and meet other people, especially in times like these. Even though Corona makes it hard to meet in person, meeting them in a video chat is easy.

Among all the services available (FaceTime, Skype, Hangouts, Zoom, Teams, Houseparty, etc.), Jitsi Meet is the easiest one I have tried. As long as you have a device with a camera and a browser, you can start and participate in video meetings.

  1. Go to the Jitsi Meeting website: https://meet.jit.si/.

  2. Tap Go to start a meeting with the random name they have suggested (or give it any name you like).

  3. Share the link (the address in your browser window) with the people you want to meet.

That’s it. It’s free, encrypted, open-source, and you don’t need an account. If you prefer apps, there are apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android. Another way to start a new meeting, is to add a meeting name to the https://meet.jit.si/ web address in your browser window. Why not try https://meet.jit.si/savvity? 🙂

Neither had I. Surprisingly. Or perhaps not surprising given that it is a free service. No point in throwing any advertising money on that. 🙂 I have used it a few times and it worked without any hitches every one of them.

Since writing #0, Telegram messenger has added video meetings to their services. They are one of the absolute best I have tried yet. It has been very stable in every meeting I've had so far. It also works on all platforms and is free forever.

It also is the easiest to start. Just tap on the group or contact icon when you have a chat open and choose video chat in the pop-up.
