How to deal with the heat?

Image 1. Click to open in original size.

You may or may not know, but this week the UK is set for ANOTHER heat wave, and it is speculated that at some point we may see the hottest temperature recorded for the month of July. While to some of you this may sound brilliant, as the UK is often regarded as cold and wet, sadly this brings its own challenges: One is that while we saw the same last year, the distraction from the England football team doing well at the World Cup provided enough reason to enjoy the weather in beer gardens; and that despite this fact, it doesn't seem like the UK has adapted at all to the hotter climate. I don't think I have seen an Air Conditioning unit yet 😡

So I was wondering, what you guys do to handle the heat?

I open a door early in the morning to cool down the house, then if it will be to hot, we start the AC and stay indoors.

For me the heat is most troubling at night when I want to sleep so I shower and go to bed with my hair wet. I lay a towel folded in half on my pillow so that I don’t ruin my pillow.

I climb up to the black roof of our house and work with removing and replacing the roof cladding for 12 hours a day. Okay, it's not entirely optimal, but it has to be done. 🙂

Best regards, Niklas 🎈

#1 Does your AC unit have some kind of 'exhaust' that has to lead outside? I'm tempted to get one but if that is the case I don't think it would be possible logistically.

#2 I might have to try that! I had a cold shower this afternoon which helped a fair bit so I may have another in the evening.

#3 I wish my teeth were not so sensitive or I would have them more! I had a really good Raspberry cone today as it was on offer in the supermarket Laughing

It is going to be 39 degrees Celsius this weekend so my flat mate and I are trying to decide if we want to drive up to Lake Tahoe, where it will be cooler, or drive to the coast!

#7 Ahh I see. I saw that you can buy these online, but they require some expertise to install I believe. I looked into portable ones but they seem like a hassle as well.

#9 We had the same yesterday in London! Luckily I live a little outside the capital, so I didn't get the brunt of the heat, but it was still pretty bad! A trip to the coast with the breeze sounds good though!

Just now in the morning it is only 11.6 degrees C outdoors, so the door to the terrass is open. Indoors we have23.1 degrees, so I hope it will be better. Later today we will use the AC if it will be another hot day.

#13 That's unbelievable! The highest we had at the peak of the heatwave here was around 100, which I couldn't handle at all!
