Insects, like bees, often have a hard time finding places to live in urban areas. It is easy to make an insect hotel for bees and other insects to take into possession. There are many ways to do it, but I prefer the ones you can make in a few minutes.
1. Take a large piece of untreated wood, like a slice of a log.
2. Drill lots of holes in it. Make them several sizes to attract different insects. The ones in the photo are between 6 and 10 mm, I think.
3. Put the hotel in a warm and sunny place and wait for insects to find it. Find a place where the insects won't bother you, or you them.
The insect hotel in the photo took five minutes to make. In just a few weeks, we found many holes plugged with what looked like gray clay. That's a sign of insects living there.
