How to best get rid of the stalk of asparagus
When cooking asparagus, you don't want to eat the hard, chewy stem. You can cut it with a knife and hope to get it right, but most likely get rid of too little or too much. Instead, break it with two hands and you will have all of the tender, upper part in one hand, and the hard stalk in the other. It works every time if you use ripe asparagus.
