How to pack for evacuation in an emergency

Image 1. Click to open in original size.

The hot summer of 2018 brought many big forest fires across the globe. The Red Cross has made a list of things to pack if you have to leave your home with short notice.

  • A change of clothes and a warm sweater (wool is excellent).

  • Thermos and a mug.

  • Snacks and food that doesn't require cooking.

  • Mobile phone and charger.

  • A book and/or games/pottering for kids.

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste.

  • A soap.

  • A small bottle of alcogel/hand sanitizer.

If you live in an area with high risk of forest fires or other emergencies, you should consider having an emergency bag already packed with these items. Then you don't have to think when it's time to leave. Just grab the bag and go.

I would say a family photo album is important too if you're at risk of losing everything.

Good thinking, both of you! I would recommend digitizing family photos before emergency strikes.

Great tips, when we were evacuated for the King fire I was at work and my brother had to scramble to grab some things for me and it was a huge headache for all of us!
