How to make Scandinavian Coffee

2018-08-12 05:59 #0 by: Tammie

Myth or truth?

Has anyone ever heard of this?

I just read this article on Scandinavian Coffee. They are saying that Grandma had a secret ingredient in her coffee. A whole raw crushed egg, with the shell and all! Who does that? Or, did people really do that, back in the day?

I am really wondering if anyone else has ever heard of this or had a Grandma that made coffee this way?

I have not but atleast around here they used dried fish skin to clarify the coffee. Maybe becouse chickens were rare here back in the day so you would not use them in coffee.

But I have seen "Klarskinn" (fish skinn used to clarify coffee) and I think I have a recepie on how to do them and make coffee with them i my great grandmothers old cookbook

Neither one of those sound good! Part of me wants to try it to see if it would work. But, the other part of me doesn't even want to taste coffee made with egg in it! LOL

#3 You don't taste the fishskin. But since they used the coffee ground twice around here I imagine it wasn't as tasty as Budhas coffee

How bizarre! Sometimes eggs can be in things and you won't taste them, maybe that is the case with coffee as well? We use it to glaze sausage rolls, but you would never know from the taste.

#5 like wine and sodas often have eggs or fish gelatin (modern version of fishskin) in it to clarify it
