I feel very fortunate that this isn't affecting my area.

Yes, I agree. It is a very sad situation. So many people have lost their homes and another person has died bringing the total up 7. The latest person that dies was a working for PG&E. He was only 21 years old. I have just found out that he was the cousin of my Nephew's wife Brittney. He was working on power lines to restore power to the city of Redding.Sad

How long after the fire is extinguished does it spread hazardous particles?

#4 That is a good question. I would think that if the fire is out there isn't as much of a spread as when it is actually burning. There have been a couple of really big wildfires burning here for the past few weeks and there is still so much smoke that the particulate matter count is really high making for a very unhealthy situation.

Can you stop it from getting indoors?

Yes, it is much better indoors but it is still getting inside to some degree. I have had to use a mask when going outdoors and use my inhaler, sinus medication and eye drops.
